Can you successfully keep water hyacinth in a tropical fish tank? What light parameters are necessary? Water quality? pH? Hardness?

I had some inside for a month, just had to throw it out. had 2 compact day light florescent bulbs 3" over it with no glass in between. maybe it needs to be fertilizes for it to grow good inside. weird thing is the 2 tubs of it that's still outside is still doing good.
